What's a yurt.

A yurt is a round tent originally used by itinerant nomads in the cold, dry steppe regions of Central Asia.

A yurt consists of a wooden skeleton of preformed walls (hanni), roof poles (unni) and a central wheel (tono) in the middle of the roof. There are several layers of felt around the walls and the roof for insulation, which are covered by a protective layer to keep the wind out and to protect the felt against rain and snow. A yurt usually has an (insulated) door and a round opening in the roof which is used for ventilation and cooling (chimney effect) in the summer and through which a chimney passes through during the winter.

Our yurt was made here in Hungary by Gábor Adorján. This yurt is a contemporary version of the original Mongolian yurt suitable for the wetter climates of central and western Europe.

Our yurt.

The yurt stands on the slope of an old vineyard, at the beginning of our orchard. You have a view over our terrain, the village in the valley and the slopes of Rezi Hegy and Púpos-hegy. During the afternoon, as the sun shifts to the west, you’ll see the landscape and mountains change, and as if by magic the white walls of the ruins of Rezi-var become visible.

Only 350 m away, as the crow flies, you will find the only, initiated by the Dalai Lama,  Buddhist Peace Stupa of Europe. We try to maintain the serenity this place exudes, by offering a place where peace is central. You can walk for hours over the mountains, stroll through old vineyards and enjoy the many beautiful views and flora and fauna. View the basalt deposits at Kovácsi hegy . Or the castle ruins of Tátika vára or Rezi vár . You do need sturdy walking shoes and a little endurance, but all this can be done walking from the yurt.

We strive to create a place for our guests where peace is central. That is why there is no 220V, no television, no radio and no WiFi. The lighting in the Yurt comes from a solar panel, and there is a 5V / 2.1A USB[1] charging point for mobile devices.

Outside the yurt is a private terrace, a small kitchen and an ecological urine-separated compost toilet whereby faeces and urine are collected separately[2]. Because sustainability is important for us, you do not have your own shower, but you use the communal, solar-heated shower.

The yurt is equipped for 2 adults and can be rented starting May 2020 for a minimum of 2 nights. Are you with more? Then you can, for a small fee, set up your own tent(s) on our spacious site. For rates see our campsite  price list . If you have small children who cannot sleep in a tent alone, you will have to provide a crib yourself.

Due to hygiene, pets are not allowed in the Yurt.

[1] You must provide a USB cable yourself!
[2] To prevent disappointments, please do not book us if you do not want that!
[3] You can also pay in Hungarian forint (HUF). We only accept cash, no pin payments or credit card.
